If you’re looking for a quick, fun activity in Sapa besides the usual trekking and sightseeing, the Alpine Coaster is a great new option. It opened recently and has already become a popular stop for travellers who want something different - something a little thrilling, but still easy and family-friendly.
And for those who prefer seeing Sapa from above, there’s also Fly Sapa Paragliding, where you can float over the same valleys from hundreds of meters in the air. But more on that later, let’s talk about the coaster first.

What Makes This Alpine Coaster Special
The coaster is built by Wiegand, a well-known German company famous for safe, high-quality alpine coasters worldwide. The entire track is around 1.1 km, with a long downhill section where you can pick up good speed, up to around 40 km/h if you don’t brake too much.
The best part is that you control the speed. Want it slow and gentle? Just push the brake lever down. Want more thrill? Release it and enjoy the curves.
The track runs along the hillsides of Mông Village. It’s not extreme, but it gives you a refreshing mix of small turns, gentle drops, and pretty views of Sapa’s nature.

Ticket Price & What to expect
For adults, a single ride costs 200,000 VND, while children under 1.35m riding with an adult pay 100,000 VND.
Most travellers find the two-ride combo for 300,000 VND to be the best value — and trust me, you’ll almost certainly want that second run. One important detail: the discount only applies if you stay inside the coaster area. Step out, and you’ll have to pay full price again, so it’s worth deciding upfront whether you want one or two rides.
The coaster generally operates from 9 AM to 6 PM, though it may close slightly earlier depending on the weather.

What the Ride Feels Like
The experience begins quietly as the cart slowly climbs uphill. You can hear the gentle click of the lift mechanism, feel the cool mountain air on your face, and take a moment to soak in the peaceful scenery before the thrill begins.
Then — whoosh! — the cart releases, and the downhill ride is pure fun. Smooth curves nudge you from side to side, straight sections let you feel the wind in your face, and the occasional small drop makes your stomach flutter just enough to make you laugh. It’s fast, exciting, and yet completely manageable for first-timers and kids alike.
Many travellers couldn’t stop at just one ride. Some went five, six, even eight rounds, drawn back by the perfect combination of speed, control, and scenic views. Just remember: if you’re riding with a partner, staff will check the weight limit for two-person carts before letting you go.
The whole ride only takes a few minutes, but it’s the kind of “short and sweet” activity that makes your day more fun.

Best Time to Visit
For the best experience:
Late afternoon gives fewer crowds and smoother, faster runs
Weekdays have shorter queues
Avoid heavy rain when the ride may pause
Lighting is softer and nicer closer to sunset
If you also plan to paraglide, it’s usually better to fly in the morning when the weather is calmer. You can always save the coaster for later in the day.

Location & How to Get There
The coaster sits in Mong Village, about a 10-minute drive from Sapa town.
A few things travellers wish they knew earlier:
Parts of the road are under maintenance, so expect some bumps
Getting a Grab back can be difficult — many drivers offer a round-trip deal, which is worth taking
The old shuttle service was discontinued in Sept 2025, so don’t wait for it
For Fly Sapa Paragliding, everything is arranged for you - pickup from your hotel, transport to the take-off point, and drop-off afterward.

Safety & Who It’s Good For
The coaster uses magnetic brakes and automatic distance sensors, so carts keep a safe distance from each other. You control the speed with one lever - very simple.
It’s suitable for:
families with kids
couples
groups of friends
solo travellers
anyone who wants something fun but not too intense
If you want a stronger thrill or a bigger view, paragliding with a professional pilot is a great next step. It's still safe, but unforgettable.
How Long It Takes & How It Fits Into Your Day
The downhill run is about 3 minutes if you go full speed, but with queuing, checking in, and photos afterward, you’ll need 30–60 minutes. That makes it a great “between activities” stop — before lunch, before dinner, or on your way back to town.
To compare: paragliding with Fly Sapa usually takes 1.5–2 hours in total, including pickup, transfer, flying, and getting your videos. Many travellers do both on the same day: coaster for quick fun, paragliding for the “wow” moment.

Insider Tips to Make the Ride Even Better
Before you hit the ride, here are a few tips to make your experience even better:
Clothing & Gear: Wear comfortable shoes, pants or jeans, and bring a light jacket in case of sudden rain. Secure loose items and tie your hair — the wind will try to steal them.
Photos & Cameras: On-track photos are available but can be hit-or-miss. They cost 100k–130k VND per shot, or 180k for two photos with digital files. The camera cue can be easy to miss, so if you want really good footage, bring a GoPro or 360 camera.
Tickets & Queues: Buying onsite is smoother — e-tickets from OTA require exchanging for physical tickets, and lines can be long. Staff may be less friendly with OTA vouchers, so plan accordingly.
Connectivity: Expect weak or no mobile signal around the coaster.
Coaster or Paragliding? (And Why Many People Do Both)
Choose the coaster if you want:
a quick, flexible activity
something easy for every age
a fun stop before or after exploring town
Choose paragliding with Fly Sapa if you want:
a bucket-list experience
big aerial views of terraced fields and villages
something emotional and memorable
If you stay one or two days in Sapa, doing both is ideal. They give two very different angles of the same landscape — one close to the ground, one from the sky.
