2. How is paragliding different from skydiving?

Accepted Answer

Skydiving is all about falling — jumping from a plane and opening a parachute after freefall. Paragliding is about flying — using natural wind to soar, float, and cover distance through the air.

Instead of jumping, you take off from a beautiful mountain slope, lift gently into the air, and glide like a bird. It’s peaceful, scenic, and controlled — not a sudden drop like skydiving.

3. Is paragliding safe?

Absolutely. Paragliding with FlySapa is extremely safe — safer, statistically, than driving a car. Every flight is fully insured, though we’ve never once had to use it.

All our gear is over-engineered for safety — modern tandem wings are slow, stable, and forgiving. Our pilots are overqualified, trained to international standards, and we only fly in good weather. Take-off and landing zones are huge and smooth, making the whole experience comfortable.

And remember — your safety is also our safety. The pilot is literally strapped to you; we’re in this together.

4. Do I need any experience to paraglide (tandem)?

Accepted Answer

No experience needed! Tandem paragliding means your pilot does all the work. The only thing we need from you is to run a few steps with us during take-off.

Once you’re airborne, you just sit back and enjoy the breathtaking view — no steering, no stress. We’ll give you a clear, simple briefing before the flight so you know exactly what to do.

5. How long does a typical tandem flight last?

Accepted Answer

The flight duration depends on weather, but here’s the math: a paraglider naturally descends at about 1 meter per second in calm air. FlySapa’s take-off point is 1,750m, and the landing zone is 1,000m, giving a 750m height difference — one of the highest commercial sites in Vietnam (and higher than most sites in the world, which average only 500m).

So even in neutral conditions, a typical tandem flight lasts around 12 minutes and 30 seconds. When the sun is out and thermals are strong, flights can last much longer.

But really — don’t count the minutes. Count the feeling of freedom, peace, and flight. Most of our guests say it’s a life-changing experience, and nobody ever checks the clock up there.

6. What does tandem paragliding mean?

Accepted Answer

“Tandem” means you and a professional pilot fly together under one wing. The pilot sits behind, and you sit in front — for the safest setup and best view.

You’re both connected through a certified system including a main wing and a large rescue parachute (capable of carrying both pilot and passenger safely).

There are misleading comments online claiming rescue chutes are for one person — that’s incorrect. Tandem systems are built to safely handle both people and all equipment.

7. Can I control the paraglider myself during the flight?

Take-off and landing are always handled by the pilot. However, once you’re high in the sky, with plenty of altitude and safety clearance, the pilot may let you try gentle turns under their supervision — if you’d like to feel how it works.

Don’t worry, your pilot always keeps full control, ensuring a smooth, safe experience.

8. What weather conditions are ideal for paragliding?

Paragliding loves clear skies, steady wind, and mild sunshine. These are perfect for floatly gliding, easy launch, and smooth feeling.

At FlySapa, we constantly monitor the local wind and weather patterns around Fansipan and Mường Hoa Valley. If the weather isn’t safe — we simply wait or reschedule. Safety first, always — no charge, no pressure.

9. What are the risks involved in paragliding?

Accepted Answer

In tandem paragliding, frankly, the biggest risk usually comes from passenger hesitation during take-off — especially when the ground starts to slope. Some people subconsciously slow down or stop running. That’s why we always remind you: run, don’t stop (unless being told to). We’ll go over this carefully in your safety briefing and even let you practice running to make it natural.

The flight itself is very safe. Most risks involve simple human errors (like forgetting to clip in buckles) — but FlySapa’s redundant safety system and triple checks  by multiple people to eliminate those completely.

We’ve done thousands of flights with zero incidents — because we treat every flight as if it’s our first and most important.

10. What is the minimum and maximum weight for passengers?

Accepted Answer

Modern tandem paragliders can safely handle up to 220 kg total (pilot + passenger + gear).

At FlySapa, we accept passengers between 20 kg and 110 kg. We match you with the right pilot and equipment — some pilots are larger, some smaller — to ensure balance, safety, and comfort.

If you’re outside this range, contact us — we can often find a solution or offer a paramotor option, which accommodates wider limits.
